Dance Center to Present All-School Concert

The Southwest Washington Dance Center will be presenting its 35th annual All School Dance Concert, with performances on Thursday, June 21, and Saturday, June 23, at Centralia College’s Corbet Theatre.

At 6 p.m. June 21, the youngest dancers will perform. They will also perform again at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 23.

Also on the 23rd, the upper level dancers will have performances at 2 and 7 p.m.

Over 230 students will be performing this year.

The Thursday evening and Saturday morning performances are dedicated to the youngest dancers. The Creative Movement, Parent/Toddler, Basic Tumbling, Jazz-Tap Combo and Pre-Ballet classes will show their work.

A special addition to this performance will be a short dance production of “Seuss.” This production was recently featured at 13 elementary schools in Lewis County for the Dance Center’s annual School Dance Tour.

The Saturday 2 and 7 p.m. programs will showcase a wide variety of dance styles from jazz, lyrical, acro, tap, modern and ballet. The Ballet section will be performing a condensed version of “Cinderella,” a classical ballet.

Also performing will be the Rhythmic Gymnasts. Dancers, aged 6 through adult, beginner to advanced, will be performing.  All 14 instructors from the Dance Center will showcase their choreography.

Tickets can be purchased for $8 for adults and $5 for children, students or senior citizens at Southwest Washington Dance Center, 437 N. Market Blvd. in Chehalis or at the door, if available.

Tickets for the young children’s performances are limited. For more information, call 360-748-4789.

‘Inequality for All’ Coming to Methodist Church

“Inequality for All,” a movie that is a passionate argument for the middle class, will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Centralia First United Methodist Church.

The film features Robert Reich, professor, best-selling author and Clinton cabinet member, as as he demonstrates how the widening income gap has a devastating impact on the American economy. The film is an intimate portrait of a man whose lifelong goal remains protecting those who are unable to protect themselves.

Through his singular perspective, Reich explains how the massive consolidation of wealth by a precious few threatens the viability of the American workforce and the foundation of democracy itself.

This program is sponsored by the Fire Mountain Chapter Fellowship of Reconciliation and Veterans for Peace Rachel Corrie Chapter 109.
