Swede Day Coming to Rochester

The Scandinavian festival known as Swede Day comes to Rochester Saturday.

Like many of the festivals, a highlight is the parade. This one runs down U.S. Highway 12 from Paulson Street to Albany Street, and then proceeds south to Swede Hall.

Parade grand marshal this year is Bill Liddle.

The Rochester American Legion Post 49 will be serving a pancake breakfast from 7-10:30 a.m. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children and $25 for a family of five or less.

From noon until 3 p.m., the Rochester Citizens Group will be offering a Swedish meatball lunch. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children age 6-8 and free for children under 6. Hot dogs and hamburgers will also be available for $5.

Entertainment will include a Scandinavian dance with Nordic Exposure, Kevin Mills and a taekwondo demonstration from Kim’s Tae Kwon Do.

For more information, call 360-273-7974.

Guenther Band to Perform at Barn Bash

Chris Guenther and the Honky Tonk Drifters will be performing at a Barn Bash 7-11 p.m. Saturday at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds’ 4-H Barn.

The dance includes a beer garden sponsored by the Southwest Junior Livestock Committee and food offered by the Southwest Washington Fair Association. Food will include pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans and more.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Children under 12 are free.

The Barn Bash is a fundraiser hosted by the Fair Association for youth premiums at the Southwest Washington Fair.

Chehalis Land Trust Plans Bio Blitz

The Chehalis Land Trust is holding a Bio Blitz Saturday on the Discovery Trail north of Centralia.

Between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., teams of adults and children will be asked to identify species of plants and animals along the trail.

Trained professionals will be available to assist the adventurers. Also, resource materials will be available.

Search results will be reported back at the base camp, or they may be uploaded to a free cellphone app called iNaturalist.

The Discovery Trail is located at 1545 Goodrich Road, which heads west off Harrison Avenue northwest of Centralia. The road will be marked with signs to show the way to the Bio Blitz.
