Winlock to Celebrate Eggs Days

Winlock, which at one time was one of the largest producers of eggs in the world, honors its poultry tradition each year with its celebration of Winlock Egg Days. This year’s event is Friday, June 15, and Saturday, June 16.

For two days, Winlock comes alive in celebration. A parade functions as the centerpiece of the celebration that also includes tours of the Winlock Historical Museum, classic car and tuner shows, and the time-honored tradition of feeding attendees with egg salad sandwiches.

The Egg Day Queen coronation takes place on the first evening of the festival, with the queen serving as the living logo of the celebration for the next calendar year.

Egg Days occurs annually on the third weekend in June.

One of the features is “The Future Is in the Egg” 5-mile walk/run Saturday. Registration is $20 for adults and $15 for kids. Race day signups will be 6-8 a.m. at 311 Kerron St. The walk-run is a benefit for Winlock/Toledo youth wrestling teams.

A comprehensive event guide, updates on the festival itself and more are available at the Winlock Egg Days Facebook page as the event draws near.

Evergreen Playhouse Offers Wilde Comedy

“The Importance of Being Earnest,” the most renowned of Oscar Wilde’s comedies, will be performed Centralia’s Evergreen Playhouse starting on Friday, June 15, and ending on Sunday, July 1.

The play is the story of two bachelors, John “Jack” Worthing and Algernon “Algy” Moncrieff, who create alter egos named Ernest to escape their tiresome lives. They attempt to win the hearts of two women who, conveniently, claim to only love men called Ernest.

The pair struggle to keep up with their own stories and become

tangled in a tale of deception, disguise and misadventure. The elaborate plot ridicules Victorian sensibilities with some of the best loved, and indeed bizarre, characters to be found on the modern stage.

Performances Fridays and Saturdays at at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. and on Thursday, June 21, at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is $12 for adults, and $10 for seniors and students. The Thursday performance is pay what you can. Presale tickets are not available for the Thursday show. Advance tickets for other shows may be obtained at www.theevergreenplayhouse.com/tickets.
