Friday, June 14

Swede Day Coming to Rochester

Rochester’s annual Swede Day celebration will get underway at 6 p.m. Friday, June 14, with the queen coronation.

The coronation will be at Swede Hall, 18543 Albany St., Rochester.

Homemade strawberry shortcake and refreshments will be available for $3. Live music will be performed and there will be free crowns for the children.

On Saturday,  a pancake breakfast will be served 7-10 a.m. by the American Legion. 

The Swede Day Parade gets underway at 11 a.m. Parade grand marshals will be Susanne Hawes and June Gelvin.

Also featured at Swede Day will be outdoor vendors, free games for children and pony rides (a small fee).

A traditional Swedish lunch will be served, with a small size $5 and a large size $8. It will include meatballs, potatoes, coleslaw, homemade bread and strawberry shortcake.

Hamburgers and hot dogs with chips will be available for $5.

Live music and entertainment will be provided in Swede Hall.

 

Winlock Egg Day Draws Returns

Winlock will hold its annual community festival, Egg Day, Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15, in the south Lewis County town.

Most of the events are on Saturday, but it gets started Friday with the Friends of the Library annual used book sale 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the library’s storage room adjacent to the post office parking lot.

Also on Friday is the Royal Coronation, in which this year’s Egg Day queen is crowned. That will take place at 607 NW Kerron Ave.

Saturday’s feature event, The Egg Day parade, will be at 11 a.m.

Registration for a Kid Dash (3-9 years old) and a 3-mile run (10 and up) will be at 8 a.m. A fee is $10 for the Kid Dash and $20 for others. The kids event is at 8:30 a.m. and the 3-mile run is at 9:30 a.m.

A pancakes and eggs or biscuits and gravy breakfast takes place from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Cowlitz Prairie Grange No. 737 at 5184 Jackson Highway in Toledo. Blueberry pancakes will be available. Proceeds go to hall maintenance and scholarships. The cost is $5 per person. 

 

Airport to Host Leap the Levee Race

The Chehalis-Centralia Airport will be holding its fourth annual Leap the Levee race at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at the airport.

Prizes will go to the top three men and women.

Also, a children’s short course run will be held at 8:30 a.m.

Participants can sign up at Raceentry.com under Leap the Levee.

All proceeds will go toward the Discover! Children’s Museum.

WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter program volunteers will host an open house from 10 a.m. to noon At the Central Transfer Station at 1411 S. Tower Avenue in Centralia. Topics of discussion will include the differences between homemade compost bins and store-bought composters, worm compost bins, building a hugelkultur and using unwanted materials in a garden.
