Morton Loggers Jubilee Continues

The 76th anniversary of the “Granddaddy of all Logging Shows,” the Morton Loggers Jubilee, continues this week in the East Lewis County town.

Saturday features the Jubilee Grand Parade at 11:30 a.m. on Main Street and the logging show at Jubilee Arena at 2 p.m.

The Uptown Street Dance in the Gas Plus parking will be run 9 p.m.-1 a.m., featuring the Harrison Street Band.

On Sunday, the logging show commences at noon.

Logging show admission is $8 for adults, and $5 for seniors and children 6-12. Children 5 and under are free.

Immanuel Lutheran Plans Kids’ Kloset

Immanuel Lutheran Church, Centralia, will holding Kids’ Kloset, a back-to-school free clothing distribution for needy schoolchildren, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11

Children will receive one new outfit, including jeans, shirt, shoes, socks, underwear and one new or like-new jacket. They may also receive grade-appropriate school supplies and hygiene kit. Valley View Medical Center will offer free dental evaluations.

The church will hand out tickets the night before so that families have a designated time slot. Tickets for Saturday’s free event will be distributed at Fort Borst Park Shelter 1 5-5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10. Tickets also will be available at Immanuel on Saturday.

Kids’ Kloset is looking for volunteers. For more information, call the church, 360-736-9270. Immanuel is located at 1209 N. Scheuber Road.

Joe’s Place Plans One Hot August Night

One Hot August Night is coming to Joe’s Place, Bucoda, Saturday.

Car buffs who want to show off their classic cars may park them on Main Street and enter a free drawing for a steak dinner for two at Joe’s Place.

At 4 p.m., there will be a street dance with live music featuring Backlash.

Bidding will open for a silent auction at 1 p.m. At the same time, tickets will go on sale for raffles. Proceeds will be donated to the Bucoda Improvement Club to help fund community projects and holiday events.

Music, face painting, games and prizes for all ages will be available all day. A beer garden opens at 1 p.m.

Kosmos Community Picnic Approaches

The 29th annual Kosmos Community Picnic will be held at noon Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Glenoma Fire Hall, 8022 U.S. Highway 12.

Those attending are asked to bring a favorite dish to share. Pop, coffee, water and eating utensils will be provided.

The event will include food, stories, trivia, prizes and more.

The White Pass Historical Society will be on hand to archive pictures and records.

Rosie Kennedy, Maple Valley, will be sharing the story of her life during a women’s luncheon at noon Monday, Aug. 13, at Church of the Nazarene in Centralia.

Kennedy also will be displaying her art quilts.

Gabby Brockway, Lewis County’s Dairy Ambassador, will be introduced at the meeting.
