The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is hosting its third annual “Family Discovery Day” from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, at their chapel at 2195 Jackson Highway in Chehalis.

The community is invited to learn how to start a family history, how to add to an existing one and how to get the whole family involved in researching. Church Family History Center staff will be on hand to give one-on-one assistance with software such as FamilySearch or Ancestry.com, which are used to conduct family research.

The classes offered at the event will include tips on how to use the different programs as well as how to do family searches for beginners and intermediates. They will also include fun ways to get kids connected with their ancestors and their family’s history. The classes are offered free for all ages.

The day will be broken into two class sessions. The first begins at 10 a.m. after the initial meet and greet is over. Then, after a 45-minute break from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for light refreshments, the second round of classes begins.

Participants are encouraged to bring their personal laptops to use during the event.
