Chehalis to Consider Bid for Rec Park Work

The Chehalis City Council is expected to accept the bid proposal of $2.104 million from KBH Construction of Olympia for renovation of the ballfields at Recreation Park as part of the consent calendar during the city council meeting on Monday.

Plans call for the installation of four artificial turf infields, new drainage and irrigation systems, walkways through the park and electrical upgrades. The total project bid submitted by KBH came in more than $177,000 under the initial estimate. A combination of local donations and grants from local, state and federal agencies will fund the majority of the project. A city-backed loan, to be repaid using lodging tax funds, will account for the rest.

Chehalis received $850,000 in two separate grants from the state Recreation and Conservation Funding Board for renovations at Recreation Park, which include replacing the more than 20-year-old playground equipment.
