Aram Matagi of Chehalis, a 10th grader at W. F. West High School, spent a week working as a page for the Washington State Senate at the Capitol in Olympia. He was one of 11 students who served as Senate pages for the fifth week of the 2019 legislative session.

He was sponsored by 20th Legislative District Sen. John Braun who serves Thurston, Cowlitz, Lewis, and Clark counties.

The Senate Page Program is an opportunity for Washington students to spend a week working in the Legislature. Students are responsible for transporting documents between offices, as well as delivering messages and mail. Pages spend time in the Senate chamber and attend page school to learn about parliamentary procedure and the legislative process. Students also draft their own bills and engage in a mock session.

“This experience opened my eyes to the opportunity I have to make a greater impact in my community through the Legislature,” Aram said. Aram is interested in pursuing a career in the STEM field and believes he can do a lot to improve legislation in that area.

Aram, 15, enjoys cross country and soccer. He is the son of John and Jamie Matagi of Chehalis.
