Chehalis River Basin Land Trust Seeks Volunteers for MLK Day Event at Discovery Trail

Posted

Volunteers are wanted for work along the Discovery Trail in Centralia, as the Chehalis River Basin Land Trust seeks to prepare the area for school groups that will be doing planting work.

The Trust will gather workers on Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, at the north end of the Discovery Trail at 1544 Goodrich Road. From 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., they’ll work to clear some space in the reed canary grass that’s currently covering the ground in a thick mat.

Schoolchildren from Rochester and Montesano will be able to use that space to plant willow stakes when they visit the location Tuesday and Thursday as part of school trips. The Trust is seeking about 15 volunteers, and garden clippers, hedge trimmers, weed eaters and long knives would be welcome as well.

Coffee, tea and donuts will be provided. Due to the change in parking at the Discovery Trail, volunteers are urged to use the restrooms at the nearby wastewater treatment plant. Workers should dress for the weather and bring their own gloves.

Questions before the event may be directed to office@chehalislandtrust.org.
