The Chehalis Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest in a May 6 burglary and assault reported at Yard Birds.

At about 1:30 a.m. May 6, police were on the scene of a vehicle fire in the 1900 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue when they were approached by a Yard Birds employee who wanted to report a disturbance, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

The employee reported he found a lock had been cut at one of the businesses inside Yard Birds, in the 2100 block of North National Avenue.

The employee went into the business and was confronted by a man wearing a mask who allegedly swung a hatchet at him before running out of the store, according to the police department.

This week, the police department released two surveillance photos of a person of interest in the incident.

The man was reportedly wearing a Michael Jordan hat, an Under Armour half-zip shirt and was possibly riding a bicycle the night of the burglary.

Jewelry and coins were reported stolen. The witness was not injured.
