The Centralia Timberland Library will celebrate its newly remodeled children’s area starting at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4.

The highlight of the event is at 3 p.m. with the interactive show of Keeth Apgar from The Harmonica Pocket. It will be part storytime, part singalong. After the show, the new children’s area will be open to explore, according to a press release from the library.

“The goal of the remodel was to provide a brighter, friendly space, with plenty of room to play and learn, and with seating for young children as well as their adults,” the press release said. “In addition, an area was incorporated for grade-schoolers, who had previously not had a specific place in the library to call their own. Glass partitions were added to contain noise and runaway tots, making the library better for those without children too.”

The area includes new walls, ceiling, lighting, carpets, shelving, furniture, toys, games and, of course, books. It also features a mural painted by local folk artist Jo James.

“The library is a great destination for families; a place parents can go to spend time with their children, while also finding ideas, inspiration, and books to continue learning together at home,” the press release said.

According to previous coverage by The Chronicle, the Centralia City Council agreed to the city contributing $36,357 toward the $107,500 project. The Timberland Regional Library network was expected to pay the remaining $71,143.
