Centralia Schools Superintendent Gets $10,118 Raise With New Contract

The Centralia School District Board of Directors approved a new contract for district Superintendent Mark Davalos at a Wednesday night meeting.

The contract spans from July 1 of this year to June 30, 2020, and includes a $10,118 increase to his annual salary.

Under the new contract, Davalos will have a salary of $166,118.

According to the contract language, the board determines whether to grant a salary increase on or before June 30 of each contract year.

When Davalos was hired in 2015 to replace Steve Bodnar, his original contract was for a salary of $141,000. In November 2016, the amount increased to $156,000.

The contract was approved with a 3-0 vote with no discussion. School board members Amy Buzzard, Kim Ashmore and Bob Fuller supported the measure. Board members Jami Lund and Neal Kirby were not in attendance, but Buzzard told those at the meeting they had each given their OK to vote on the contract, which was tabled at the last school board meeting.

Earlier this year when discussing superintendent evaluations, Buzzard, the board’s chairwoman, said Davalos has been doing a tremendous job in the district.

Davalos received a distinguished mark after scoring 38 out of 40 points on a performance summary that evaluated six standards under professional practice and responsibilities. It also evaluated learning impacts under the superintendent’s goals.

Evaluations from Lund and Kirby were not included because they were either incomplete or turned in late.

The superintendent’s goals for the 2017-18 year were also approved during the meeting.
