Centralia College will hold a 25-day adventure in Chile and Easter Island for its 2017 summer field trip.
Informational meetings will be held at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, in Room 208 of the Walton Science Center.
Trip organizers will provide details on the itinerary, costs and native cultures, stated a press release from the college. They will also answer questions about the trip.
The annual field trip is led by anthropology professor Greg Van Alstyne, stated a press release from the college. This year he will be joined by Spanish professor Mark Gorecki.
The Chile-Easter Island adventure is scheduled from July 4 to July 29 and will include visits to the following locations:
• Santiago, Chile’s capital city
• Islas de las Damas, known for Humboldt penguins and dolphins
• The Observatorio Cerro Mamalluca and its 30 cm telescope for night-time stargazing
• San Pedro de Atacama, an oasis city in the world’s driest desert
• La Tirana for the biggest festival in Chile, featuring parades and brass bands
• El Tatio, the world’s highest geyser field
• Humberstone, a mining ghost town
• Easter Island, home of the Moai, the famous carved stone faces
