Centralia College Shares Message of Inclusion in Response to National Events

The president of Centralia College shared a statement last week, asking for the community and college to do their part to ensure the educational institution’s doors “remain open to all.”

The statement reaffirmed the college’s mission and values.

It came in response to discussions being held about the state of the union on a national level, president Bob Mohrbacher said.

“Some of the events in the news nationally and globally may cause some anxiety for students and staff,” Mohrbacher said in the statement. “However, Centralia College is a community dedicated to providing educational opportunities for all students. We are an open-door institution.”

Mohrbacher said the college’s mission is to improve lives through lifelong learning. The college centers around three values, he said.

The first is of respect, valuing the worth and dignity of individuals, Mohrbacher said. The second Mohrbacher  added, is responsibility, which values the “unique contributions of college individuals by recognizing that each performs an essential role in responding to the educational and service needs of the community.”

And the third, he said, is responsiveness. Mohrbacher said the college values effective collaboration as the college responds to the changing political, social, economic and technological needs of the community.

“Some of us have differing opinions about events taking place nationally,” he said. “In spite of those differences, we need to remain committed to working and living together, to making sure that everyone feels welcome here, and to assure that Centralia College remains a home for real learning. So, I ask you to do your part to keep the community in our college and to make sure that our doors remain open to all.”
