An interactive presentation at Centralia College will teach individuals what information governments and corporations are legally taking from people every day, according to a press release from the college.

“You’ll learn how to protect your personal information online and see real time examples of why digital privacy matters,” states the release.

Filmmaker Cullen Hoback will lead the presentation. He’s an American filmmaker, columnist and speaker originally from Los Angeles. His 2013 film, “Terms and Conditions May Apply,” is a documentary about digital privacy. Hoback is considered an expert on issues surrounding digital privacy, according to the release.

He has presented at the American Bar Association on antitrust issues and has appeared as a privacy expert on news shows on CNN, NPR and MSNBC.

“Hoback has been a staunch critic of government and corporate surveillance, and has been a leader in the charge to grant immunity to Edward Snowden,” states the release.

He is currently in the final editing process of the film “What Lies Upstream,” a documentary that looks at the mystery behind the largest drinking water contamination in U.S. history. Hoback is also currently filming a followup to “Terms and Conditions May Apply.”

The presentation will be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct 10, in Corbet Theatre on the campus of Centralia College. The event is free and open to the public.
