Centralia College Foundation Awards $8,504 in Grants to Staff

The Centralia College Foundation has announced this year’s recipients of the Hanke Staff Mini-grants, which are available for college staff members and administrators to cover expenses outside the scope of state resources, including activities, special projects or equipment.

The grants are named after Walter Hanke, one of the Foundation’s supporters.

“State budget cuts have really impacted the college’s ability to buy and replace equipment and pursue new initiatives for students. The foundation has stepped up to fill that gap by awarding the Hanke Staff Mini-grants every year,” Julia Johnson, director of donor and alumni relations, said. “Where foundation scholarships support students in a very direct way, the staff mini-grants support the college’s overall learning environment.”

This year, $8,504 was awarded to support college programs.

Grants were awarded to enhance the native habitat in the Kiser Natural Outdoor Learning Lab, purchase a dishwasher for the chemistry department, T-shirts for the Early Childhood Education and Assistance program that provides free preschool programs throughout the county, the 2018 Job Fair, security locks for the gym, an event tent, a color printer and four credit card machines that will be used at Centralia College East in Morton, the Washington Hall ticket office and the business office. Recipients will officially be recognized at the college’s staff breakfast on June 16.
