Centralia College Director of Student Life Shelley Bannish has been awarded the 2020 Founder’s Award from the National Association for Campus Activities, the college announced this week.

“I’m surprised and overwhelmed,” said Bannish, in a statement. “NACA is a great organization for students and I really believe in the power of student activities to change lives and help students succeed. It’s a real honor to be chosen for this award. It means a lot to me.”

The Founder’s Award is the organization’s highest honor and is given to individuals who “have exemplified the standards of professional integrity and conduct, have achieved stature in their profession or academic pursuits, hold the esteem of colleagues and peers, and have worked to further the field of campus activities programming.”

“It’s no surprise to anyone at the college that Shelley won this award,” said Dr. Bob Mohrbacher, college president. “She’s done more for Centralia College students than just about anyone. She’s a tireless advocate for students’ rights and has been a leader and mentor on this campus for years. She is certainly very deserving of this award, and we are very happy to see her get this national recognition.”

Bannish will receive her award at the NACA convention in Denver on Feb. 25.
