The Capital Regional Educational Service District (ESD 113) Board of Directors on Wednesday named Susan Fortin to fill the vacancy left by Rick Anthony, who retired in October. She will represent District 1 including Morton, Mossyrock, Onalaska, Rainier, Tenino, Toledo, White Pass, and Yelm.

Fortin retired from the Association of Washington School Principals in August, where she had worked since 1991 — most recently serving as their director of student leadership. The board chose her because of her “demonstrated commitment to the ESD’s mission to ensure excellent and equitable education for all students through service and collaboration,” according to a news release from the organization.

“I believe that ESDs serve an essential role, particularly for small districts, which make up a large portion of ESD 113,” Fortin said.

Fortin worked at the Association of Washington School Principals from 1991 through 2019 — most recently serving as their director of student leadership.
