Cantwell Announces Half a Million Dollars in New Recreation Park Funding

On Wednesday, U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Washington, announced that Chehalis will receive an additional $520,600 from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund for upgrades to Recreation Park.

The City of Chehalis started work on the park in late August. The city was eligible for this round of funding thanks to a waiver obtained by Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground.

“Obviously we’re very excited about it,” said Chehalis Mayor Dennis Dawes. “Without the assistance from those grants and the donations that have come in from the community, through the (Chehalis) Foundation, that project would not be possible.

The grant was awarded in late September, according to Cantwell’s staff.
