Film Takes Look at Genetically Modified Crops

“Genetic Roulette: A Gamble of Our Lives,” a film by best-selling author Jeffrey M. Smith, will be shown 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, Centralia.

The film looks at possible health conditions, such as allergies, diabetes and autism, that may be related to the genetically modified crops that have increasingly become part of the standard American diet.

The film addresses these questions:

• What is Monsanto’s relationship with the Food and Drug Administration?

• What is the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s position on genetically modified crops?

• Are there health implications to genetically modified organisms?

• Even if you have not decided about genetically modified food would you like to have food labeled so you know what you and your children are eating?

The American Academy of Environmental Medicine reported, “Several animal studies indicate serious health risks associated with GM food,” including infertility, immune problems, accelerated aging, faulty insulin regulation, and changes in major organs and the gastrointestinal system.

The church is located at 506 S. Washington Ave.
