Editor’s Best Bet: CC Faculty Members to Give Lyceum on Snowshoeing
Centralia College faculty members Carrie Johnson and Karen Goodwin will be giving a Lyceum presentation at Centralia College Wednesday on “Snowshoeing Basics.”
The presentation will include selection of gear, locations to go to and how to walk on snowshoes. A slide show will be included.
The Lyceum will be at 1 p.m. in Washington Hall 103.

Mushroom Cultivator to Speak at Mycological Society Meeting
The Tuesday meeting of Southwest Washington Mycological Society will feature David Sumerlin as guest presenter.
The meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the WSU Lewis County Extension meeting room in the basement of the Lewis County Courthouse, near the west entrance. Those with accessibility issues may find the east entrance more accommodating.
Sumerlin has been in the mushroom industry since 1982 as a mushroom cultivator. He has been producing mushroom nutraceutical products through Fungi perfecti for the last 17 years. Starting in 2000, Sumerlin has been a mushroom educator, in which capacity he gives workshops and talks on mushroom cultivation and other mushroom arts.
Non-members are always welcome to attend. Bring in unidentified mushrooms for expert analysis.
Onalaska Alliance to Show Film at Onalaska High School
The Onalaska Alliance is showing the premiere of a short video that is all about Onalaska at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Onalaska High School Room 408.
The film was produced by Brad Betts, of Transcend Videography. It is called “Small Town Livin’” and features long-time residents of Onalaska. It was commissioned by the Onalaska Alliance through a Lewis County tourism grant and community support.
It is a way to garner interest in Onalaska from visitors and potential new residents alike. The video will be posted for free on the Alliance’s website after the showing.
The Alliance will be honoring members of the community who contributed to the making of the video. Refreshments will be provided.

‘The Treasure of the Sierra Madre’ Coming to Fox Theatre
The Centralia Fox Theatre will be screening the next in its 2017 Fox Theatre Film Series, the 1948 western classic “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre” Saturday, March 11.
The showings will be at 2 and 7 p.m.
Two down on their luck Americans, Fred Cobbs (Humphrey Bogart) and Bob Curtin (Tim Holt), search for work in Tampico, Mexico, in 1925. They convince an old prospector to help them mine for gold in the Sierra Madre Mountains. They face enormous difficulties yet strike gold. But bandits, the elements and greed threaten to turn their finds of treasure into disaster.
Dress in your best Western apparel and join the theater in celebrating the cinematography of the 1940s.
Admission for the movie is $10 per person ($8 for members) and $25 per family (three to four persons.) Season Passes are also available for the 2017 Film Series. Passes are $80 ($60 for members) and are good for all remaining movies in the series.
