Editor’s Best Bet: Centralia College Choir to Perform at Corbet Theatre

The Centralia College Choir on Wednesday will perform a concert celebrating the season and ending the first quarter of the school year. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at Corbet Theatre, Centralia College.

 Enjoy a varied program that includes, “A-Soalin’“ arranged by Ronald Staheli, “The Sycamore Tree” by Benjamin Britten, “Deck the Hall” arranged by John Rutter and “Jingle Bells” arranged by Wayne Howorth.

Centralia College Music Faculty to Perform

The music faculty at Centralia College will be giving a free recital at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the college’s Corbet Theatre.

The recital will include:

• Brahms “Op. 10 No. 4, Ballade in B minor,” piano

• “Sketches for Solo Piano” by Hermes Camacho

• “Tango Fantasia” by Jacob Gade and Toke Lund Christiansen, flute and piano

• “Regrets and Resolutions” by Gary Schocker, flute and piano

• “Zueignung Op. 10 No. 1” by Richard Strauss, voice and piano

• “Lonely House” from Street Scene by Kurt Weill, voice and piano

• “Quanto è bella” from L’elisir d’amore by Gaetano Donizetti, voice and piano

• Brahms “Op. 120, No 2, Sonata” for viola and piano

Church Pastors to Speak at Onalaska Alliance Meeting

The Onalaska Alliance’s monthly community meeting will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Onalaska High School, Room 408.

Les and Marita Thelander, pastors at the Onalaska Assembly of God, will be speaking about the Onalaska Food Bank and the food ministry at their church.

The food bank in Onalaska is estimated to help around 40 families. It is open on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month from noon until 3 p.m. at the Onalaska Assembly of God, 133 Leonard Road.

The youth group at the Onalaska Assembly of God recently hosted a Walk-N-Knock and are planning on hosting another one to help support the food bank.

Portland Man to Speak at Mycological Society Meeting

Peter McCoy will be speaking at the Tuesday meeting of the Southwest Washington Mycological Society.

McCoy is a self-taught mycologist and the co-founder of Radical Mycology, a grassroots organization and ecology-focused movement that shares skills related to cultivating fungi for personal, societal and ecological resilience. 

He is also the author of the book, “Radical Mycology,” which covers a range of insights and skills related to the radical mycology ethos. Peter will discuss the many topics and insights covered in “Radical Mycology,” from the history and impact of fungal ecology to the future of human-fungal relations.

McCoy currently lives Portland, where he researches and develops increasingly accessible means for growing and working with fungi.

Non-members are always welcome to attend. Bring your unidentified mushrooms in for expert analysis. 

Meetings start at 6 p.m. in the Agricultural Extension meeting room located in the basement of the Lewis County Courthouse (near the west entrance). Those with accessibility issues may find the east entrance more accommodating.
