Editor’s Best Bet: College to Offer Performances of ‘Eurydice’

Centralia College Theatre this month will be presenting “Eurydice,” a play by Sarah Ruhl.

Performances will be Thursday through Sunday and Feb. 18-20. Thursday performances will be at 7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 14, at 2 p.m. at Wickstrom Studio Theatre.

Based on a Greek myth, “Eurydice” is the story of two young lovers who are “separated” on their wedding day. Eurydice falls to her death and ends up in the underworld, where she’s reunited with her father, who’s also dead.

Unfortunately, she doesn’t recognize him (she’s been dipped in the river of forgetfulness) and the father must endeavor to re-educate her, which he does. All is seemingly well until Orpheus, her husband, travels to the underworld to save her and now she’s faced with the dilemma of having to choose between father and husband.
