DFW Employee to Speak at Mycological Society Meeting

The Tuesday meeting of Southwest Washington Mycological Society will feature Laura Till showing how to properly use a topographical map and compass.

Till has worked for the state Department of Fish and Wildlife for 18 years, conducting surveys for spotted owls and marbled murrelets, and walking hundreds of miles of salmon streams.

Her extensive field work, orienteering competition, and 13 years of teaching map and compass for the annual Washington Outdoor Women workshop, along with a passion for maps and hiking, has given her a knowledge of and respect for the challenges of navigating in the woods of Washington.

The classroom presentation will lead to a field training event later in August. The public is welcome at the meeting; the field training is for members only.

Meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month, beginning at 6 p.m., in the WSU Extension meeting room in the Lewis County Courthouse basement.
