Bull Riders Hold on Tight at Lazy HK Bar Ranch

Riders suited up in boots, chaps, and cowboy hats as attendees gathered to enjoy a night of bull riding and camaraderie Saturday night at the Lazy HK Bar Ranch.

“You’ll see some of the best bulls in the world buck here,” declared Harlan Knowles, who has been running the once-a-month winter bull riding series along with his wife Chris at their Silver Creek ranch for the past two decades.

The event featured over 40 riders of various ages and experience levels including steer riding, novice bull riding, and open bull riding.

“We love what we do,” said Tom Ahrens, a longtime rider at Lazy HK Bar Ranch. “This isn’t for the weenies of the world, this isn’t sitting behind a TV watching video games, everytime you nod your head on a bull it’s life or death.”

Jace Catlin, of Toledo, got his first bull riding opportunity at the Lazy HK Bar and Ranch back in 2009 and has went on to win multiple events in the sport.

“I’ve been to over 500 rodeos in my career but I always like coming home,” said Catlin. “This is kind of the stepping stone for a lot of young guys to come learn and get to the next level for bigger rodeos.”
