Bond Measure for School Renovations Failing After First Vote Count in Castle Rock School District

The April 24, 2018 Special Election for Castle Rock School District, “Proposition 1 Facility Improvement General Obligation Bond,” is not passing after the first vote count. The measure is failing by narrow margins in Cowlitz County and was largely rejected by Lewis County.

The $42.4 million bond would have funded a new middle school as well as renovations at the elementary and high schools.

In Lewis County, 35.51 percent of voters approved the measure (98 votes) while 64.49 percent rejected the measure (178 votes). In Cowlitz County, 57.26 percent of voters approved the measure (1,365 votes) while 42.74 percent of voters rejected it (1,019 votes).



Bond measures require a 60 percent supermajority in Washington to pass.

Overall, 55 percent of voters (1,463) approved the measure, while 45 percent (1,197) rejected it. The next vote count will be today, and the election will be certified on May 4.
