A bill that would give disabled veterans a free Discover Pass each year was unanimously approved by the state Senate on Wednesday.
Senate Bill 5137, sponsored by Sen. Brian Hatfield, D-Raymond, would give disabled vets free access to recreational lands managed by the State Parks and Recreation Commission, the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
“I know many of our veterans are outdoor enthusiasts and this bill offers a little financial relief,” Hatfield said in a press release on the bill. “This is one small way of recognizing the sacrifice our veterans have made for our country.”
The bill has now moved to the state House of Representatives for consideration.
