CC President’s Wife to Speak
at AAUW Meeting
LaDona Martin-Frost, wife of the new Centralia College President Robert Frost, will be the guest speaker at tonight’s meeting of the American Association of University Women.
Music in Bolivia will be the subject of Martin-Frost’s talk: “No Milk for the Baby: Indigenous Women’s Contributions to Andean Music in Bolivia,” based on her research in rural Andean communities.
As a female trumpet player, LaDona approached her graduate studies in ethnomusicology at the University of Illinois with a keen interest in women’s participation in music-making. Martin-Frost, an AAUW member, will provide musical examples on Andean instruments as she leads a discussion of gendered roles in music-making prevalent among Quechua- and Aymara-speaking communities in the Andes.
Martin-Frost is new to Centralia, having arrived this summer with her husband and their two daughters.
The meeting will be at 6:45 p.m. at The Gathering Place, Stillwaters Estates, 2899 Cooks Hill Road, Centralia.
The public is welcome to attend. For more information, call Jeanne Gordon, (360) 736-6605, or Kristi Nelson, (360) 748-4203.
