Two school districts in Lewis County and one in Grays Harbor County are among 39 districts in Washington state that received equipment assistance grant money for kitchen improvements.

According to the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Morton School District received $8,111 for its central kitchen; Mossyrock received two separate grants of $11,328 and $19,228 for its central kitchen; and Oakville received two grants of $5,894 and $6,959 for Oakville Elementary School.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture provided $590,372 for the grants, which are intended to help schools buy kitchen equipment such as salad bars, walk-in coolers and double ovens.

OSPI said in a news release that the schools considered for the grants had the highest number of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch, and had never received grants for kitchen equipment before.

The grant winners have to spend the funds by Sept. 30, 2015.
