Elk Hunt Raffle Winner Announced

Jack Froshauer Jr., of Chehalis, has won the Dave Sherwood Memorial Elk Hunt Raffle, sponsored by the Centralia College Foundation and TransAlta.

Sue Sherwood, the widow of Dave Sherwood, drew the winning ticket at the Centralia College’s Hanke House Wednesday.

Dave Sherwood was an employee of TransAlta who lost his life while hunting near Mount St. Helens in 2011.

The drawing was for one weekend of hunting for a single bull elk, three point minimum, on the TransAlta Centralia Mine lands. Tickets were sold for the elk hunt raffle at various locations throughout Lewis, Thurston and Cowlitz counties, with nearly 250 tickets sold.

The elk raffle raised $6,150, of which $3,500 will benefit student scholarships at Centralia College for the 2013-14 academic year.  The balance will be added to ticket sales from last year’s raffle to create the Dave Sherwood Memorial Endowment. The endowment will memorialize Sherwood’s life while benefiting Centralia College students in their education in perpetuity.
