The Washington Secretary of State’s Corporations and Charities Division has scheduled an educational workshop for new nonprofit organizations for June 15 in Lacey.

The workshop will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Lacey Conference Center at 975 Carpenter Road NE. Lunch will be provided.

“This workshop is geared toward those who are new to the nonprofit world,” said Teresa Glidden, education coordinator for the Corporations and Charities Division.

Wayfind, which provides free legal services for nonprofits, will present a “nuts and bolts” workshop.

“It is presented by attorneys who specialize in nonprofit law and will cover the legal setup of a nonprofit, applying for federal tax-exempt status, as well as nonprofit board governance and a board’s fiduciary duties and responsibilities,” Glidden said.

The workshop will also cover financial controls for nonprofits, registering as a charity and fundraising using games of chance.

Registration is limited and available at www.sos.wa.gov/charities/training. The event costs $10.
