Dr. Karen Wolfe, an international physician, health coach, speaker and author, will host a free women’s heart health event “Women’s Night Out” at the Great Wolf Lodge from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17.

Wolfe will offer women in attendance eight practical steps to improve their lifestyles and family wellness during her hour-long talk, presented by Providence St. Peter Hospital Regional Heart Center.

“It’s not going to be prescriptive, but informative,” Wolfe said. “So people have options and can decide, ‘Where do I start?’ We have way more power than we think.”

Wolfe claims heart disease is different for women and since women are most often at the center of family wellness, their health can help an entire family.

“Women often present differently than men in symptoms,” Wolfe said. “Women often present fatigue, abdominal pain, headache, back pain. It’s important for women to become aware of differences and to be an advocate for themselves.”

Wolfe will also discuss her new book “Is Your Lifestyle Killing You” during the presentation.

Attendees are invited to show up early from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a health fair that includes free health screenings, blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar checks and hand grip strength tests.

Seating is limited to 500 people. To register, go to www.provregister.org or call (360) 493-7247 or (360) 330-8656.

Wolfe graduated from Sydney University Medical School, practiced primary care medicine, served as medical director of the Australian Government Health Service and earned a master’s degree in psychology. She currently lives in Southern California with her husband.
