Man Arrested After Arriving at Centralia Police Station Already in Handcuffs

A 21-year-old man showed up at the Centralia Police Department in handcuffs Saturday evening requesting an officer’s help to take them off, according to police. The Centralia man, however, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and was instead taken to jail in the same handcuffs he arrived in.

The man, Aaron M. Perez, knocked on the back door of the police station shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday, said Centralia police Sgt. Kurt Reichert.

Perez told police he and his friends were messing around, and as a joke they put him in handcuffs, Reichert said.  His friend then threw the key out into the lawn.

Instead of searching for the key, the man decided to go to the police station and ask for help, unaware he had outstanding warrants for his arrest, Reichert said.

The handcuffs belonged to the man’s friend, who had bought them at a second-hand store.
