Herrera Beutler Named to New Subcommittees

Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, was appointed to two new appropriation subcommittees and will now be part of the Energy and Water subcommittee and the Commerce, Justice and Science subcommittee.

“These new assignments will be a tremendous asset for the residents of my home here in Southwest Washington,” Herrera said. “From enhancing the Columbia River’s infrastructure that supports $20 billion in commerce for our region, to protecting hydropower, to promoting salmon recovery, these subcommittee roles make me uniquely positioned to fight for the needs of our region.”

Herrera will continue in her position on the Financial Services and General Government subcommittee, but will no longer be a member of the Interior and Transportation subcommittees.

“… I will remain highly active on those issues within the committee, and the experience I gained there will be invaluable,” she said. “My new assignments are a great opportunity to expand my effectiveness for the people of Southwest Washington.”

The Department of Energy, the Bonneville Power Administration, the Army Corps of Engineers, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board and Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board, among others, are under the jurisdiction of the Energy and Water subcommittee.

Herrera will be the only U.S. House member from the western United States to serve on the Commerce, Justice and Science subcommittee. The Department of Commerce and NOAA, the International Trade Commission and the National Science Foundation are federal agencies under the jurisdiction of the subcommittee.

Herrera was active in both subcommittees before her appointment, and last May she successfully restored funding levels that had been cut from the Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund.

The Financial Services and General Government subcommittee has jurisdiction of the Department of Treasury, FDIC’s Office of the Inspector General, IRS, National Credit Union Administration and the Small Business Administration, among others.
