Lewis County officials will be applying for a grant to improve the runway at the Packwood Airport.
The Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution on its Monday agenda to allow the Department of Community Development to submit a grant to the Federal Aviation Administration and the Department of Transportation Aviation Division.
The project will bring the runway into FAA standards by widening the current 38-foot width to 60 feet, replacing the medium intensity runway edge light system and providing a runway safety area.
If awarded, the grant would go toward both design and construction of the project.
The estimated cost for this phase of the project is $2.38 million. The county is expected to contribute 5 percent at $119,000.
