The motorcyclist who died after a 5:35 p.m. crash Saturday evening on Old Highway 99 near Angus Road north of Tenino has been identified as Lawrence K. Copelan Jr., 68.

He was riding a 2010 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The motorcyclist was driving southbound on Old Highway 99 just north of Angus road, went off the roadway to the right, struck a mailbox and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the State Patrol.

There were no other vehicles involved. The cause is under investigation.

Trooper Guy Gill said it is an important reminder to choose motorcycles that can be ridden safely.

“It’s important to always ride within your ability,” Gill said. “Have a motorcycle that fits your needs and ride within your ability.”

Copelan’s autopsy was scheduled for Monday, according to Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock.
