Vader is celebrating May Day this Saturday with a variety of family-friendly events.

This year’s theme is “Trains, Tractors and May Flowers.” Janet Charlton, a third-generation resident who is the organizer of the event, said she believes Vader has been hosting a May Day festival for about 64 years.

The Masons of Little Falls will kick off the day with breakfast at their lodge at the intersection of A Street and Ninth Street from 7-11 a.m.

Parade line-up begins at 9 a.m. on D Street.

While the parade entries are getting ready, the Hispanic dance team from Winlock will be giving a performance on A Street at 10:30 a.m.

Following the dancers, the parade will begin at 11 a.m.

After collecting candy at the parade, May Day attendees can participate in the cakewalk, which starts after the parade.

Then, hula dancers from Longview will give a performance.

Following the parade, raffle winners will be drawn for prizes including a Lucky Eagle Casino gift certificate children bikes sponsored by the Little Crane Cage.

Throughout the day, people can tour the historic jail and travel through the air on a zip line. Games for kids will be going on as well, including giant bubbles and pony rides. The Vader Assembly of God Church will be hosting a garage sale and food other vendors will be selling items. All events will be on A Street.

People can still participate in multiple ways in May Day. For those who would rather be in the parade instead of watch it, call Charlton at (360) 295-3011. Vendors looking to set up shop can contact Judy Costello at (360) 295-3036.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, bakers can drop off cakes for the cakewalk at the storefront across the street from the Post Office on A Street.
