Firefighters Attempt to Rescue Cat in Douglas Fir

Some might have called it much ado about nothing, but Riverside Fire Authority Chief Jim Walkowski thought otherwise.

“Well, it’s not human life, it’s feline life, but it’s a life,” the chief said as he prepared to hoist a ladder 35 feet up a Douglas Fir tree Tuesday in a Centralia backyard a few blocks from the Centralia Factory Outlets.

Neighbors at the apartment complex on the other side of the fence from Linda Lane reported that the cat had been in the tree since last weekend. As firefighters attempted to grab the constantly meowing orange cat from the branch, it simply climbed higher and became more and more unreachable.

Firefighters attempted to pull down a branch so the cat could make its own way down. As of press time, the whereabouts of the cat were unknown.
