County Extends Seasonal Closure of Part of Bunker Road Through 2020

A routine wintertime closure of an unmaintained portion of Bunker Road in west Lewis County will take place through at least 2010 after county commissioners on Monday approved the extension.

Bunker Road, which meets Bunker Creek and Ingalls Roads about 10 miles west of Centralia and Chehalis, routinely closes at the unmaintained area October 15 to April 15 yearly.

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife requested the closure in 2005 originally due to water on and over the road, and stated that vehicles using the road caused loss of fish life and degraded habitat.

Public Works crews gated the end of Bunker Road in 2006.

The closures were initially put in place from 2005 to 2010, then extended another five years. Monday’s second extension of the seasonal closure of the portion of Bunker Road will extend it to at least April 15, 2020.

Public Works officials reported there had been no change in the road’s condition, and they recommended closure until the issue had been taken care of as there is no alternative to keeping the portion of Bunker Road closed.
