W.F. West Student Expelled After Posting About School Shootings

A W.F. West High School student was expelled Monday after he allegedly posted several Facebook statuses about killing people after the recent school shooting in Connecticut.

The student was emergency expelled, which means he will not be allowed to attend school until a disciplinary hearing takes place where administrators discuss all the facts behind the incident, said Ed Rothlin, superintendent for the Chehalis School District.

The hearing, which will take place at a later date to allow for all the facts in the case to be gathered, will ultimately result in a final decision.

The Facebook posts were brought to the attention of the Chehalis Police Department after a classmate of the student called law enforcement at 10:21 p.m. Sunday.

According to the 911 dispatch call log, the Facebook posts said things about how the student did not think the school shooting in Connecticut was a bad thing. The student is believed to be a 17-year-old junior.

He allegedly wrote that the Connecticut shooting happened for a reason, and that it would be fun to kill people.

Police investigated the incident and referred all the information to the school to handle, said Chehalis police Sgt. Rick McNamara.

There was no direct threat, but it was enough to alarm some of the boy’s classmates as well as the school, McNamara said.

“Because of the incident last week, it did cause a bit of a disruption,” Rothlin said.

Anyone with further concerns about the incident should contact W.F. West High School, Rothlin said.

“Facebook is obviously a way of communicating, but it also has its own way of passing on bad information as well,” Rothlin said.
