Two Free Days at Forest Service Recreation Sites Coming in June

Posted

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy nature at U.S. Forest Service sites in Washington and Oregon for free on two Saturdays in June.

Fees will be waived for National Trails Day on Saturday, June 6, and National Get Outdoors Day on Saturday, June 13. The fee waiver applies to day-use fees at Forest Service recreations sites and includes picnic areas, boat launches, trailheads and visitor centers. Camping, cabin rentals, heritage expeditions and other permits will not be waived.

National Trails Day encourages people to hike National Forest trails and to help keep them maintained. For volunteer opportunities for trail upkeep visit www.americanhiking.org/ntd-events.

The purpose, encouraging people to get outside, is in the name for National Get Outdoors Day. On June 13, the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, along with the National Park Service, is hosting an event in Vancouver featuring 50-60 recreation booths including climbing, fishing, hiking, cooking, camping, orienteering and archery, among others. The event will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, 1501 Evergreen Blvd., Vancouver.
