Posted

Centralia College has announced that it will offer a certification course in geographic information systems, or GIS, for people who wish to expand their professional skills and for students who hope to expand their educational opportunities.

The course includes instruction in the use and hands-on application of GIS and combining satellite-based navigation or GPS systems to create detailed maps and geographical data.

The GIS program is used by geologists, city planners and forestry industry professionals, among others. Political candidates and parties can even use GIS information to identify potential voters.

Open enrollment is underway for the spring quarter, which begins March 31. For more information about the GIS course, or other college programs, visit www.centralia.edu or call Lynn Schinnell at Centralia College East at (360) 496-5022.
