‘The Goonies’ to Be Screened at Fox Theatre
Historic Fox Theatre Restorations and Wolf Electric LLC are airing “The Goonies” at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Fox Theatre in downtown Centralia.
In this 1985 action/adventure film, two brothers find out they might lose their house they are desperate to find a way to keep their home. They find a treasure map and bring some friends along to find it. They are all out looking for the “X” and trying to get away from a group of bad guys who also want the treasure. The film is rated PG.
Admission is $8 per person, $7 for HFTR members, and $20 per family (three to four persons). Cross Creek Alpaca Rescue to Hold Open House
Cross Creek Alpaca Rescue will be holding an open house 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday at 4225 Old Military Road SE, Tenino.
There will be a silent auction in the Blue Barn, and visitors will be able to tour the farm to meet rescued alpacas and horses.
Barbecued hot dogs will be served.
Cross Creek is a volunteer organization run solely on the donations of animal lovers. All funds are used for the physical and emotional health of the animals.

Youths to Perform at ‘Soaring Soloists’ Concert Youth shall be served (and featured) at the Pacific Northwest Chamber Orchestra’s free annual “Soaring Soloists” concert Monday at Centralia College’s Corbet Theatre.
Three area students have been selected to perform instrumental solos.Centralia Christian School seventh-grader Jisu Han will be spotlighted on de Beriot’s “Violin Concerto No. 7,” W.F. West sophomore Jason Chung plays lead on Kabalevsky’s “Piano Concerto No. 3” and Lower Columbia College freshman Jared Devine takes center stage during Vivaldi’s “Cello Concerto in A minor.”
Other selections include Mozart’s “Jupiter Symphony,” Shostakovich’s “Ballet Suite No. 1” and a medley of compositions by jazz legend Duke Ellington.
Han, 13, spent two years with the Student Orchestra of Greater Olympia before joining the PNCO this season. She also plays piano and clarinet.
Chung, 14, opened for the Lewis County Concert Series this March and has performed twice at the Washington State Music Teachers Association Conference Recital Competition in Olympia.
Devine, 18, has been a member of the Southwest Washington Symphony Orchestra for four years, is cellist for the Lower Columbia College String Quartet and sings tenor with the LCC Concert Choir.
Members of Centralia’s Fords Prairie Grange will serve free refreshments in the theater lobby during intermission, which will include the traditional basket pass where audience members may make donations to the PNCO, which has never charged admission for a concert in 12 seasons.
Longtime local high school music instructor David Judd, enshrined alongside original PNCO conductor Dee Morton in the Washington Music Educators Association’s Hall of Fame in 2010, oversees most rehearsals in addition to conducting concerts. This is his fifth season as the orchestra’s Conductor/Music Director.

Community Band
to Perform
at Centralia College
The Lewis County Community Band will present a family-friendly concert of instrumental music at Centralia College’s Corbet Theatre Tuesday.
The concert will begin at 7:30 pm.
A few of the selections on the program will be:

• “Kirkpatrick Fanfare” by Andrew Boysen

Louie Blaser and Karl Scarborough have been co-conducting the Lewis County Community Band since 2007. This growing ensemble has 22 woodwind players (flutes, clarinets, saxophones and oboe), 20 brass players (trumpets, French horns, trombones, euphoniums and tubas), four percussionists, piano and double bass.

Distinguished Alumnus to Give Lyceum Presentation
Dr. David L. Carsten, the Centralia College 2015 Distinguished alumnus, will be talking about the value of empathy in relationships during his Lyceum presentation at the college Wednesday.
Carsten holds an associate of science degree from Centralia College, a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry from Washington State University, a doctor of dental surgery degree from the University of Washington, and a certificate in anesthesia from Lutheran Medical Center in New York City.
He has been recognized with the Award of Distinction in Continuing Education from the Academy of Dentistry International in 2005. He taught at the Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry, Portland, from 1995 to 2008.
Carsten lectures and writes on many topics. His particular interests are the science and psychology of empathy, nutrition, pharmacology and perception. He serves patients in the Spiritual Care Department at Salmon Creek Legacy Hospital in Vancouver, Washington, and maintains a private mobile anesthesia practice.
Lyceum is free and may also be taken as Humanities 286, one credit. This class will be held at 1 p.m. in WAH 103.
