Tribe Gets Nearly $200,000 for Elk Monitoring Near Mount Rainier

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has awarded the Puyallup Tribe $199,879 for conservation work to monitor and enhance habitat for the South Rainier Elk Herd.

The grant is part of a sum of $4.2 million awarded in Tribal Wildlife Grants to Native American tribes in 13 states, supporting 22 fish and wildlife conservation projects.

Two other tribes in Washington state received grants. The Suquamish Tribe received $200,000 for the Sea Cucumber Restoration Pilot Project and the Tulalip Tribes of Washington received $199,906 to use beavers to restore ecosystem functions in the Snohomish Watershed.
