A high wind advisory is in effect this morning until Tuesday afternoon, with winds from a Pacific Ocean frontal system expected to reach 30 mph in some areas with 60 mph gusts in Western Washington, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds between 30 and 39 mph and gusts between 45 and 57 mph warrant an advisory because the strong winds have the capability of snapping small tree branches, uprooting small trees and causing power outages, the National Weather Service Web site stated.

The wind is expected to decrease this afternoon, but another round of stronger, more widespread winds is expected to occur tonight.

“The strongest winds would be at the coast and in the northern interior of Western Washington,” National Weather Service meteorologist Jeff Michalski said. “It will be pretty windy tonight and tomorrow morning.”

No power outages have been recorded by the Lewis County Public Utility District, PUD manager Dave Muller said.

In order to prepare for a power outage, Muller recommends having an emergency kit ready with a flashlight, food and water handy.

“Just the standard things,” Muller said.

In case of a power outage, PUD recommends calling the office at 748-9261 and asking for dispatch, Muller said.
