Posted

The state of Washington’s 125th anniversary has provided an opportunity for people to write messages to be included in a time capsule that won’t be opened until 2389.

Messages, keepsakes and other content that represent the culture of Washington at this point in time will be added to the state’s Centennial Time Capsule, which will be sealed during a special ceremony Feb. 22. Anyone wishing to write a message for inclusion in the capsule may do so by emailing message2389@sos.wa.gov or by submitting a form on the Washington Secretary of State website at www.sos.wa.gov. The deadline is Jan. 1.

The Centennial Time Capsule is located at the south entrance of the State Capitol in Olympia. The time capsule was last added to in 1989, the 100th anniversary of Washington’s statehood. The capsule is a safe that contains individual time capsules to be filled with new items every 25 years, the contents of which will remain sealed until Nov. 11, 2389.
