Lewis County native and Metropolitan Opera star Angela Meade will perform at the Astoria Music Festival at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, in the Liberty Theater.

Her debut recital performance in Oregon will be accompanied by highly acclaimed pianist Danielle Orlando. The program includes art songs and arias by Handel, Liszt, Bellini, Verdi and Strauss.

Tickets range from $30 to $85 for her performance, which is part of a festival that runs from June 11 through June 25.

Meade was born in Centralia and studied at Centralia College prior to earning a bachelor of music degree with an emphasis on voice from Pacific Lutheran University. Later, she received a master of music degree in voice from the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California. Meade then continued refining her craft by studying at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia.

During her career, Meade has won more than 50 vocal competitions, including the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2007. She also won grand prize at the Montreal International Music Competition in 2009, and in 2011 she was awarded the prestigious Richard Tucker award. In 2012 Meade received the Metropolitan Opera’s Beverly Sills Artist Award.

Other performances include opera soloist Deborah Mayer, who will make her festival debut in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 “Ode to Joy.” Portland-based soloists include Angela Niederloh and Arwen Myers. Young American soprano Meagan Martin will be Rosina in “The Barber of Seville.”

“We are excited to present the biggest and most challenging festival in our short 15-year history,” Board of Directors President Deac Guidi said in a press release. “Our Artistic Director Keith Clark has assembled a remarkable roster of international artists and varied repertoire, and we invite music lovers to visit our charming small coastal town.”
