The faces of Phyllis Gutierrez Kenney and Tomas Villanueva were added to Centralia College Clocktower Diversity Project on Thursday.

About 50 onlookers dodged light raindrops Thursday afternoon around the clock tower at the center of campus for the unveiling ceremony.

Kenney, a state representative from the 46th district in north Seattle since 1997, currently chairs the House Committee on Community and Economic Development and Trade, and was formerly chair of the Higher Education Committee. She was honored for her work to help minorities achieve success, and her advocacy for education and rights of individuals in the state and nationwide.

Villanueva emigrated from Mexico with his family at the age of 14 and, after college, worked to establish the Pacific Northwest’s first Farm Worker Cooperative, Community Service Center and Farm Workers Medical Clinic.

“They have helped secure and implement the foundation on which our humanity stands,” Centralia College President Jim Walton said.

Sex Offender Living in a Van in Rochester
By The Chronicle

ROCHESTER -- The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office wants residents to know a registered sex offender is living in Rochester, and is listed as homeless.

Eric W. Clemens, 21, is a level two sex offender -- with a medium likelihood of re-offending -- but because he has no fixed address, the sheriff’s office is making a more widespread notification than it otherwise would.

Clemens was convicted when he pleaded guilty in March 2006 to downloading child pornography from a Centralia College library computer. He lived in a Rochester home following his 15 month sentence, but is now living in Rochester in his van, according to the sheriff’s office.

Clemens is described as a male, 6-feet 3-inches tall and weighing 305 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.

Those interested are urged to pre-register by e-mailing their name, phone number and agency or neighborhood to class organizer Vivian Eason at easonv@co.thurston.wa.us. The same information can also be faxed to (360) 786-5582. Further information is available by calling (360) 786-5243.
