Napavine’s Luxury Cat Resort Gears Up for Holiday Season Opening

While lounging at the pool at a fancy resort, some pet owners struggle to ignore the pang of guilt they feel for leaving their pet at a boarding facility, confined to a cage, while they live in luxury.

Rebecca Rose, owner of Luxor Cat Resorts & Spa in Napavine, said she was motivated to open the luxury boarding facility after recently having to board her two cats.

“Cats appreciate being pampered. They really, truly do. They don’t ask for much,” she said. “We offer not only luxury from a human’s perspective, but especially a cat’s perspective.”

Rose is in the process of finishing the remodeling of the property at 225 Second Ave. NE in Napavine for the resort. The resort is accepting some “guests” currently, and is taking reservations. Rose said she plans to officially open in two to three weeks.

The facility, formerly a home, will have the boarding area on its ground floor, she said. The front room will be a “Catnip Lounge,” complete with cat trees and fish tanks. Individual rooms, where up to four cats from the same household can stay outside of cages, will have themes such as “Sunny Greek Villa,” and “New York Apartment.” Rose also plans to offer an enclosed outdoor patio, or “catio” for indoor/outdoor cats, and offers pick-up service for cats coming from up to 100 miles away, free with a one-week stay. Rose recently picked up a cat traveling from Nashville at Sea-Tac Airport.

“We really just offer a home-like environment,” she said.

The facility will cater exclusively to cats, with no dogs allowed, Rose said.

“The demand is quite high,” she said. “I wanted to do exclusively cats, and the cats appreciate that.”

The facility will also have smaller, more traditional boarding options, but Rose wants the whole facility to be “psychologically open” for the cats.

“They’re still going to be extremely luxurious compared to standard boarding,” she said.

The spa portion of the resort will include haircuts, flea and tick treatments, Soft Paws claw covers and other options. Rose plans to play classical music and nature shows for the felines. The facility will have a retail area with organic food and other items.

“I really am trying to cater to the psychology of the feline,” she said.
