Evergreen Playhouse: Calling all Thespains

Posted

Have you ever wanted to audition for multiple productions, but can’t seem to find the time? The Evergreen Playhouse is offering local thespians a solution to that problem.

For the first time ever, the playhouse will be hosting general auditions for the 2015-16 season, allowing small town actors and actresses the opportunity to try out for all six of the upcoming productions at one time.

Directors are looking to fill dozens of spots with actors of a variety of different ages. The performances for the upcoming year vary greatly. From true stories, to comedy-thrillers and holiday plays, The Evergreen Playhouse is offering a lot of opportunities.

The new idea for the general auditions has been met with enthusiasm, and 42 of the 45 audition spots are already filled. The remaining three audition spots will most likely be booked quickly, but walk-ins are also encouraged.

“It’s the best opportunity for people to be able to come and get all of the auditions at once,” Shane Rivers, a director at The Evergreen Playhouse, said.

The general audition will allow people to plan ahead for the productions if they are able to obtain a spot.

“We have a lot of people that have other commitments in their lives and people are pretty busy,” Rivers said. “”If we find someone we want to use, they know to keep that time of the year open.”

If slots remain unfilled after the general auditions, directors can choose to host auxiliary auditions prior to the start of their shows.

All six directors will be at the event, and those auditioning will need to prepare two contrasting monologues. If auditioning for a musical, at least sixteen bars of accompanied music is required.

A computer will be at the site for those who wish to sing with a Youtube clip or CD accompaniment. All musical accompaniment should be karaoke versions with no one else singing. A piano will be available for those who wish to bring an accompanist with them.

Audition slots are 10 minutes long and those participating should arrive 15 minutes early to allow for check-in time.

The audition dates will be on July 27-29 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Callbacks will be placed for specific shows on July 30 and 31. If a director would like to see someone read for a part, they will contact them to return. Those who do not receive a callback, may still be offered a role.
